This proposal was realized in the 2002 D.U.M.B.O. Art Under the Bridge Festival. It took place on October 19th (Saturday) from 7pm to midnight as part of the "Simultaneous Projections" event. The location is on the corner of Jay and Water Streets (see below).

"Without" consists of three projected digital video streams which are synced with each other and are similar, but not the same.
Each video is black and white and features animated scenes of a sole character roving a desolate and derelict environment.
They are projected onto three adjacent buildings or walls.
These projected wanderings form looping patterns which change from one form to another over long time periods. (i.e. crawling, walking etc. each for over 20 minutes, before dissolving into the next action). The entire range of action combinations from the three simultaneous projections take many hours to view.
"Without" is an artwork that deals with homelessness, separation, invisibility, loneliness, disenfranchisement, and the notion of falling between the cracks of society.
An animated, ephemeral character inhabits a corner or dead end. He is seen alone, walking, crawling, ranting and spinning in the air in front of desolate urban landscapes, devoid of people and of color. An icon of homelessness, he roves his dreamscape in a jerky, surreal manner, always moving, even in sleep, dislocated from time and place.
