The new VRAG 2010, is twice as bright and has a long lens that is 7x the previous version allowing for a smaller image to be projected over a longer distance. A long snoot on the lens ensures there is no light bleed in any direction other than straight at the target. A new versatile mount and bungee straps balance the weight of the projector so the operator doesn’t have to hold most of the weight when performing..
It also features a new button array on the handle that feeds ascii messages to the embedded laptop which uses a software patch to translate those messages to video control signals. This is superior to the original version which used MIDI and suffered from lags in timing. The computer and software patches are also updated to be newer and faster.
The unit is far more flexible having the computer built-in, as the original had a separate laptop with cables running to it from the projector, leading to problems with potential cable tangling around the tripod: the unit could only make one turn before having to go the opposite direction to untangle the cables. The new unit uses only one cable (power) feeding to the tripod.
I am seeking alternative locations to present my project on buildings in New York City. I have dates chosen and insurance coverage, non-refundable, for $1,000,000 for those specific dates:
July 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, 30, 31 and August 1
According to the Mayor’s Office for Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, I am permitted to project from private property onto private property with the consent of the property owners, so long as I am not shining lights in the eyes of traffic. As such I am seeking help finding appropriate locations for these (very soon) dates. I have approached one institution to let me project from their terraces onto their buildings for the first weekend (see mock photos) and am hopeful to find more such locations where a private area can be used to project from, onto private buildings.
The request is for a small crew of 4 people to set up the projector, operate it and videotape it for documentation; set up starting at 8pm and breaking down at midnight. I do not need an audience area, though if audience were allowed to view the projector operations that would be preferable. I would also request use of electricity so I don’t have to set up a generator, though I have such ready, if needed.
This project is entirely non-commercial, paid for with public funding with the only intent being to provide cultural presentations for the people of the city of New York.
